03-28-2011: Tile, day 3; Fireplace finished; Cabinet hardware
Rick continues working on tiling the guest showers. It's a very tedious and slow process. Almost every tile has at least one cut. It's looking good!
The fireplace guys finally showed up about 5:30pm today and got the fireplace unpacked and set up. It obviously needs some cleaning on the glass but is fully functional. It even has a remote control.
Although it is very much outside of my comfort zone, I decided over the weekend that the cabinet hardware was going to have to be installed by me. Rick has way too much to do right now. I got a crash course in marking cabinet door knobs with a jig, finding the centers of drawers, using a different jig to mark (and level) the drawer holes with 4-inch centers, drilling the holes properly, and installing the hardware. I have the kitchen finished and all cabinet door knobs installed (53) throughout the house, plus drawers in the utility room. I'm still working on drawers in the bar, guest bathrooms, master closet, and master bathroom. I think it looks just fine.

03-26-2011: Tile, day 1
Rick started the tile in the hall shower today after he painted a sealant over all seams and screw holes. He got the ceiling tile installed in one shower and all of the cement board up in the guest shower.
I made a very quick trip to Dallas today. I flew out this morning, spent the day with Dina and Mary Lou, and returned home about 7pm.

03-25-2011: Electrical, day 6
The electricians worked again today and got most of the lights/fans/electrical stuff finished. They'll be back out soon to finish up when we have a few more projects completed. The light didn't come in and won't be here until next Wednesday or so. This really ticks me off because I'm pretty sure they didn't even order it until I called to check on it this morning. The fireplace and alarm people didn't show up.
Today is birthday day, so we didn't work on the house much. We did pick up the tile and looked at basement flooring some more. We had Home Cafe for lunch and are meeting Amy, Abby and Kate at Cafe J tonight.
Rick will finish up the showers and start tiling this weekend. I'll probably work on the handrails on Sunday and may start installing cabinet door knobs and eventually drawer pulls if Rick will show me how to get started.
The redbud tree was part of my 40th birthday present. It's looking pretty decent five years later. I like that it's always just hitting full bloom every year on my birthday.

03-24-2011: Showers, day 6; Electrical, day 5
Rick poured the shower pan in the master shower this evening and is very close to being finished with the showers. He just needs some more cement board on the walls but can't work on it until the floor sets up.
The electricians were back and installed some more lights, including some of the exterior lights, the lights over the island, and the lights in the garage. They also installed the doorbell, moved the entry light to the up-stairwell and rewired some light switches. They still haven't put up any bathroom fixtures yet.
The electrical guys should be back tomorrow, along with the fireplace guys and possibly the alarm guys. I'm very hopeful that we can go get the tile and hardwood flooring tomorrow and get started with that. Rick says we'll start with the tile in the small bathrooms.
We also got bids on the faucets today and will get those going very quickly. We've done a 45 day lock on the interest rate for the mortgage with the option of one free re-lock if the rates go down--we now have to be finished by May 5th. I'm hoping for a week or two sooner than that.

03-22-2011: Fireplace & hearth finished (almost); Showers, day 4
The stone guys finally showed up today with a crew of four and were able to finish the fireplace, hearth, area above vent hood, and the mortar over the front door. We think it looks great and are very excited to have this part behind us. We'll call the fireplace people and have them back out to get the fireplace unpacked and set up.
Rick finished the guest shower today and started on the master shower. It will probably take another day or two to have the showers finished. He can now start on the hardwood floors since the hearth is in, but I don't know if he'll start on tile or wood floors first.
The electricians didn't make it out today, but maybe they'll be back tomorrow. The light will arrive Friday or Monday.

03-21-2011: Showers, day 3; Electrical, day 3
One of the electrician's helpers was out today but mainly just worked on wiring plugs. The crew should be back tomorrow. I ordered the entry light this afternoon, and it should arrive in about 3 days.
Rick finished the hall shower tonight and poured the shower pan. He'll work on the guest shower tomorrow and will then tackle the master shower. It will probably take the rest of the week to get the showers finished.
We are still waiting on the stone guys. Although he promised us at the end of last week that they would be out today, he never showed up or called.
