Rick finished painting the garage doors and the exterior door from the garage while I was watching the Baylor/Tech football game (ugh!).

The sand was delivered this afternoon, but no bricklayers yet. It could be as late as Tuesday before they start.

Rick is also still working on cabinets for the master closet. We're going to try to go to some open houses tomorrow to make some final decisions on the kitchen cabinets.

10-08-2010: Taping/bedding/texture finished; brick delivered; cabinets continue

When I backed out of the driveway at 6:42am, the brick truck was sitting in the road in front of the house waiting for the gate to be opened.   It was over 1 hour and 15 minutes before sunrise!

The wall texture was finished by lunch.  We used an orange peel texture, and it looks like they did a great job. 

The brick layer will start either tomorrow or Monday depending on if the sand is delivered tomorrow.  The mortar was delivered this afternoon.

Rick spent all morning dealing with the brick and texture stuff, but continues his work on the cabinets.

10-07-2010: Taping & bedding, day 4

The taping & bedding guys got everything sanded well and put a thin layer of primer paint throughout the entire house today in preparation for the texture tomorrow.  It looks really good.

The cabinet wood for the closets was delivered today, and Rick is building cabinets for the master closet in the shop tonight.  The brick is going to be delivered tomorrow morning.

10-06-2010: Taping & bedding, day 3

The taping & bedding continues.  Each layer has to completely dry overnight, so it's a slow process.  The guys have worked long hours every day with a full crew, so I have no complaints.  They should finish the texture by Friday.

The brick will be delivered on Friday.  We haven't talked to the bricklayer again, but the brick will be here and ready if his crew is available next week.

Rick ordered a lot of wood for the cabinets/closets/etc. today.  He'll have to start all of that stuff in the shop since we can't do anything in the house until after they're finished with the mud and texture.

The kitties got to go out for a while tonight with supervision.  No snakes today!

10-05-2010: Taping & bedding, day 2; SNAKE!

No pictures today.  The taping and bedding continue, and it doesn't look terribly different than yesterday.  We think they may be through with everything, including texturing the walls, by the end of the week.

When I got home from work this afternoon, I made a quick trip to the garden to grab some peppers for dinner.  On the way back in, I glimpsed something curled up by the small watermelon which was sitting on the front porch right beside the front door.  It was a small snake and looked like a hog nose.  I went and got Rick anyway because I just don't deal with snakes except to shoot them or smash them with something, and this one was too close to the door.  It turns out it was a rattlesnake...curled up a couple of feet from my door!!  Not good!!

10-04-2010: Taping & bedding, day 1

The taping & bedding guys started this morning and really got a lot done (no 3 hour lunch breaks for these guys!).  They got all of the sheetrock seams taped except the ones at the very top of the vaulted ceiling in the living room.  They also got some nail holes filled and the bullnose corner pieces (for rounded corners) installed on windows & 90 degree corners.  The 45 degree corners haven't been done yet.  It looks good.  The looks probably won't change a lot until they start putting texture on the wall.

The small garage door was installed today, and the dented panel on the larger door was replaced.  We'll add the garage door openers after we get all of the texture on the walls.

Rick is working on the floor area in the attic over the kitchen.  It's an unexpected space because the vaulted ceiling was originally supposed to go all the way through the kitchen to the wall.  We changed it to keep from having external bracing across the living room ceiling, but now we have a fairly large area that we could make into some kind of room in the future.  Rick is just strengthening the floor and moving some boards around before all of the taping and bedding is done to prevent possible ceiling/joint cracking in the future if we did a lot of work on the area.

10-01-2010: Mantle; Sheetrock, day 7--FINALLY finished!

Well, the sheetrock took considerably longer than we were told and expected, but it is finally finished.  The taping/bedding/texture guys will hopefully start on Monday. 

The brick actually arrived on about Wednesday, but the brick layers are not available for a couple of weeks.  I guess we'll just have to wait. 

The mantle is coming along.  We've got a glossy finish in the above pictures, but we're going to go with a matte finish for the final coat.  The alarm is installed everywhere and is working in the shop and apartment.
