06-30-2010: Footing dug
The footing was dug today and will be poured tomorrow. The rain is holding off for now, but the weekend looks very wet. We hope they can get the forms set on Friday, so we can get the plumber going ASAP.

06-29-2010: Footing marked
The footing was marked today, and the foundation guys will be out tomorrow to trench and pour the footing (if we don't get too much rain tonight). We really lucked out today with missing some big rain clouds and have gotten just under 1/2 inch of rain since Sunday night. Most of the area has gotten much more. We aren't out of the woods yet, though--Hurricane Alex is possibly headed this way for the weekend.

06-26-2010: Basement framed
The basement is framed! Eight guys started working just before 9am and finished around 2pm. We're hoping the foundation guys can get started on Monday. Best case scenario: the foundation guys, plumber, and electrician get everything in and ready for the slab to be poured in 1 1/2 to 2 weeks.
I added these last 2 pictures. The first is the full moon rising over the open basement on Friday night. The second is Minx kicking back and relaxing in the house while we were out working in the heat on Saturday.

06-24-2010: Basement floor
The basement floor and footing were poured today. Their other job site was still too wet, so we got moved up. The ceiling/floor trusses were delivered tonight, and the rest of the framing lumber will be delivered tomorrow. The basement framers are scheduled for Saturday, and the foundation guys will start early next week (probably Monday). Unfortunately, there is a 40% chance of rain for the first 3 days of next week....

06-23-2010: Basement dig, part 2
They finished the basement dig today. The basement they were working on just before ours has not yet been finished and the dirt floor remains wet from Sunday's rain. We think they are going to start working on the footing and floor on ours tomorrow.

06-20-2010--possible delay??
This isn't a good picture, but it was lightning and still raining.
We had a bad storm around 6:30 tonight with strong winds and over an inch of rain. If you look closely at the large trees in the background, you'll see that some are missing. At least 4 were blown over during the storm. [It was actually 9]
The building site is flooded but should dry fairly quickly tomorrow if we don't get much more rain tonight. There was a good chance of getting started with the dig tomorrow. Now, it will just depend on what happened at the other job site. It's about 3 miles north of us, and the rainfall totals looked much lighter to the north. Maybe we'll get lucky...

06-16-2010: Basement walls
We now have walls in the basement. The basement guys poured 45 yards of concrete in the walls of the basement today (that's 4 1/2 concrete trucks!). It will cure for several days before they dig out the center part (most likely on Tuesday) and prepare to pour the footing and floor of the basement. I guess we're back in waiting mode until next week.
