January 19, 2014

JD and Jill accompanied us on a quick weekend trip. The progress continues in remodeling the main floor bedroom and bathroom. We brought the trailer and moved up some furniture. We also got the stair rail installed up to the second floor. We cooked some really good green chili stew and breakfast burritos and made a couple of trips to the new bakery in town.

I took our old fishing equipment and decided to try out the trout pond. To everyone's surprise, I brought back four nice rainbow trout, and we had grilled trout for dinner.

Rick and I took a short weekend trip to the cabin.  Rick repaired and replaced faucets and installed some ceiling lights and I removed wallpaper in the guest bedroom.  We also moved some furniture around, got the tv installed and cooked our first meal here--grilled steaks and potatoes/onions.

12-15-2013: First trip to the cabin

We made our first trip to the cabin this weekend accompanied by JD & Jill. We left early Friday morning and arrived at the cabin by 10 am MST.  The status of the water, heat, appliances and several other important items was a complete unknown since we had opted to skip an inspection and the cabin had been vacant for a while.

It was very cold and even snowing a bit when we arrived.  The electricity had been connected earlier in the week, and we got the heaters going quickly.  We figured out how to turn on the water to the cabin, and all was going well until JD noticed the waterfall coming out of the light fixture in the hall of the main floor.  Rick was able to locate the problem (a busted pipe) behind the sink in the upstairs bathroom (with the help of a sheetrock saw) and temporarily patched it to allow us to have water for the weekend.

We spent the weekend cleaning, organizing, washing linens & towels and shopping.  The cabin is in really good shape overall.  The main floor bedroom and bathroom need to have wallpaper removed, and new paint and trim.  Both decks need work, and the back deck needs a very large pine tree removed.

We can't wait to get back to get started.

It's Official!

We signed paperwork and closed on the cabin tonight.  We should be able to take possession on Thursday, but the approaching winter storm and super cold temps will likely keep us away for a while.

November 2013: A new project

We have a contract on a cabin in Cloudcroft and, barring unforeseen circumstances, should close by the end of the month.  It's a foreclosure which is fully furnished and remodeled except for a couple of rooms.  The decks need some work but shouldn't be a major ordeal.  We're very excited about the cabin and the opportunity to spend more time in the mountains.
