04-14-2011: Tile, day 20

We almost finished the shower tonight, but we ran out of mortar.  It shouldn't take Rick too long to get those last tiles in tomorrow.  He'll work on the tub area next, and we'll tackle the floor this weekend.  The plumber's helper didn't show up--it will now be at least Tuesday before he's here and about 11 days or more until the plumber is here.  Randy worked more on the area next to the patio, and we'd like to get that poured soon.  It was a long day.

04-13-2011: Tile, day 19

We got quite a few tiles up in the shower today.  Tonight, Rick had to cut out  and build the soap holder areas and cover them with the waterproof membrane while I grouted the kitchen, bar, hall, and part of the utility room.  We didn't finish until after 11:30pm, and I am totally exhausted. 

I'm off work tomorrow and am very hopeful that we can get most of the tile up in the shower.  The plumber is currently in his first week of a two week vacation in California, but his goofy helper (the same one who fell off the roof on 9-2-2010) is supposed to be out tomorrow to start working on some of the fixtures, etc.  The microwave, water softener, reverse osmosis system, faucets, utility sink, etc. were finally delivered today.  Randy also moved some dirt around today with the tractor and began preparing to build the extension onto the back patio.

04-12-2011: Tile, day 18

Tonight was kind of a bust.  We had to go to a meeting that we thought had been cancelled.  I had arranged my day and evening around this being cancelled and then it wasn't.  Rick got some tiles up in the shower.  The picture looks weird because the tiles are all really the same color.  Let's hope more gets accomplished tomorrow.

04-11-2011: Tile, day 17

Rick got the floor tiles installed in the master shower today.  We picked up our hardwood floor and got it unloaded and moved into the house.  I grouted about 1/3 →1/2 of the tile tonight and got it cleaned off with some help from Rick.  We also spent some time today figuring out tile backsplash for the kitchen and carpet /flooring for the basement.

04-10-2011: Tile, day 16

We essentially finished tiling the kitchen/bar/hall/utility rooms today.  Rick ran out of mortar and lacks a couple of tiles in the utility room but will be able to finish those quickly tomorrow. 

I finished applying the waterproof membrane in the master shower, and Rick will install the floor tiles tomorrow morning.  We won't be able to do any more work in the master shower until Tuesday to let the floor tiles set up, but there is a huge amount of grouting to keep us busy in the areas we just finished tiling. 

04-09-2011: Tile, day 15

We got quite a bit done today.  We worked our way into the utility room, cut quite a few difficult tiles, and mortared in some of the kitchen tiles.  The fun will continue tomorrow.

04-08-2011: Tile, day 14

We cut a lot of the difficult kitchen tiles today, but I didn't end up with a picture.  We moved the vanity into the guest bathroom, and I finished the drawer pulls.

I also watered trees and moved the chickens outside today!  They are in a pen behind the apartment and will be there for a while.
