08-11-2010: Framing, day 1

Our framers got a lot done today!  The interior walls are framed, and they have started on the front and back porches.  Some of the beams won't be in until late tomorrow or Friday morning, but they'll have enough to keep them busy until the beams arrive.  I suspect they'll build staircases to the basement and attic tomorrow. 

The estimated finish time until the roof is on and the house is "dried in" is 1 1/2 weeks (the end of next week).  They'll likely be working at least on Saturday this weekend.  The glass block windows were ordered today and should arrive within two weeks.  We have to decide on shingle colors fairly quickly and get them ordered.  After the framers finish, Rick will paint all of the eaves before the roofers start putting shingles on.  We also have to make a final decision on brick and stone within the next few days and get those ordered.  The framers will install the doors and windows when they are delivered.

08-10-2010: ICF clean-up

The framers will be here at 8:30am tomorrow.  We had a large load of lumber delivered today, and the ICF stuff is just about completed.  They expect to be finished with the framing including roof on and windows installed (if they have arrived) within about 2 weeks.  We're making final decisions on brick and rock.  All windows (except glass block) and doors have been ordered.

08-09-2010: Walls poured

The walls are poured!  The pump truck was impressive.  It's at least 4 or 5 stories high and was able to reach all walls while staying parked in the same spot near the gate.  They filled the lower windows first and worked their way around the walls in 3 separate pours of approximately 3 to 4 feet each.  They have anchor bolts in the top of the wall along 4 foot intervals or so.  One of the pictures shows drops of water sweating through the styrofoam after the second pour. 

There are a couple of guys here already starting to take the plywood patches off the seams.  The rest of the crew will be back tomorrow to remove bracing, lightly sand the walls, and attach wood along the top to the anchor bolts so that the rest of the framing and roof can be tied in.  The framers will be here Wednesday.

The pump truck is here. We are waiting on concrete.

08-04-2010: ICF block, day 10

No picture updates today.  The ICF guys worked today but left early.  They are supposed to be back tomorrow to totally finish up and be ready for the pour, which will now be at 8am on Monday morning :(  The framers probably won't get to start until Wednesday---not too happy about that!  We order windows and doors tomorrow.  Decisions, decisions......

08-03-2010: ICF block, day 9

The ICF guys worked more on bracing and preparing for pouring the walls.  It will be ready on Thursday, but the subcontractor hasn't been able to arrange to get the pump truck and concrete trucks coordinated for Thursday.  It will most likely now be Friday or even Monday.  After the pour there will be a day of taking down braces and sanding the walls smooth, and then it's ready for the framers.  The framers plan to get started Monday or Tuesday if it's ready.

Toby in the basket.  They take turns and even sleep in it at night.

08-02-2010: ICF block, day 8

A couple of the ICF guys were here today from 7:30am to 8:30pm, and they seem to have accomplished quite a bit.  The whole crew is supposed to be back tomorrow.  It looks like the walls may be poured on Thursday now instead of Friday.  I can't imagine that they still have 3 full days of work left, so Thursday seems most likely right now.                                      Rick won a gift basket from Market Street's "Taste of Texas" promotion this weekend.  Minx took over after we cleared the goodies out of the basket.  He was even eating the fake grass stuff.
