06-15-2010: Trenching the basement, part 2

More progress on the basement......the walls will be poured tomorrow, and then we'll have to wait several days before they dig out the center and pour the footing and floor.  We now have a portapotty, and the pile of dirt is growing much larger.

06-14-2010: Trenching the basement, part 1

They started trenching the basement today!!!!!  As would be expected, we had an afternoon of thunderstorms, and the guys had to stop at around 2 pm due to lightning and rain (our first rain in 2 months!).  If we don't get any more rain, it will be dry enough for them to continue tomorrow.

06-07-2010: Basement marked

The foundation guys came out today and marked the house and basement.  The basement guy was supposed to start today or tomorrow but is running about a week behind due to equipment problems last week.  It will now be Friday at the very earliest before they start the basement.  At least it's marked and ready!
Toby checks out the basement.

06-05-2010: We have FINALLY broken ground!!!!

We closed on the construction loan on Tuesday (June 1st) but had to endure yet ANOTHER 3 day waiting period before we could start.  We scraped the house site today and are ready for the basement guy to get started this week.

The Fireplace Mantle, part 1

We made a trip to Benjamin today to find a mesquite log for the fireplace mantle.  We located this huge tree just outside of town and were able to get a large piece of mesquite wood that will hopefully work.

One week later--it's going to work well.

Getting Close!

We turned everything in at the bank today and will close on the construction loan in about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks.  Unfortunately, we can't get started with the foundation & basement or do anything to the property until the papers are signed!  The picture above has stakes marking off approximately where the house will be located.  We're hoping to get everything lined up and going as soon as the papers are signed.
