02-28-2011: Painting, day 7

The painting continues. Rick is going to finish spraying primer on all the trim before we start with the semi-gloss trim paint. I've been sanding A LOT for the past 2 days. We didn't paint anything yesterday but just worked on taping and sanding.

02-25-2011: Painting, day 5

Rick is spraying primer on the hall bathroom (above), master closet, master bathroom, and master bedroom today and tonight. He ran out of paint earlier, so we met Mother, Abby & Kate for an early dinner and came back to finish painting. We have someone coming out tomorrow to sand what was sprayed today in preparation for the final two coats of paint. Hopefully, we can continue taping and spraying primer on the trim throughout the rest of the house this weekend.

02-24-2011: Painting, day 4

02-23-2011: Painting, day 3

Rick has finished painting the trim in the basement/lower stairs and the drawers. We may be able to tape the trim tomorrow and paint the walls.
Tonight we cleaned up paper/tape. I taped the drawer glides in the cabinets in the master closet and hall bathroom while Rick painted doors.

02-22-2011: Painting, day 2

We finally have some real paint! The trim in the basement and stairs has been sprayed once. It needs 24 hrs to dry before we put on the second coat. The second from last picture is the drawers with primer and sanding completed. Rick had just begun spraying them with the first coat of paint when the sprayer tip broke. He had to make a trip in to Home Depot but is ready to get started again. The last picture is some of the painted drawers.

We are using oil-based semi-gloss paint for the trim and ended up choosing the color between Southern Breeze and Colonial White. The wall paint is latex eggshell and is the color between Dusty Trail and Toasted Almond.

We had hoped to get both coats of paint on today and to be able to paint the basement walls tomorrow and have that part of the house finished and closed off, but it looks like we'll have to come up with a different strategy.

02-21-2011: Painting, day 1

Rick put primer on the trim in the basement and stairs today. After work, I ran back into town and bought wall and trim paint. We stayed out until after 10pm tonight painting drawers and shelves from the closets and bathrooms. I was taping drawer glides, and Rick was cranking out the paint. We finished either 33 or 34 drawers. He'll put two coats of the paint on the basement trim tomorrow, and we'll get the basement walls painted in the next day or two.

02-20-2011: Prepping for painting

We worked on taping, sweeping, dusting, and cleaning today in preparation for painting the trim and cabinets. We have some more prep work to do, but Rick should be able to get started with the basement tomorrow. We have decided on a wall color and are confident we won't have to change it again. The trim color will either be the lighter color we've been looking at or a mixture of the two colors. We've changed to Sherwin Williams from Pittsburgh Paints.

02-17-2011: Stain, day 5 (cabinets finished)

The stain guys have finished. Rick is installing the two remaining stair railings and has a little more caulking and cleaning to finish before he starts painting. The wall and trim colors remain undecided, but he can start on the primer first.

02-16-2011: Stain, day 4

They haven't finished the drawers or doors yet and will probably put on a second coat, but we think the cabinets look great. We spent a considerable amount of time this afternoon and evening working on the paint colors. We have it narrowed down but haven't made a final decision yet. It looks like we need one more trim color quart sample and a gallon of finish paint before we can decide. We also looked at more flooring. We're kind of leaning toward the tile shown here.

02-15-2011: Stain, day 3

The stain guys finally got started again this afternoon. They have stained everything now and have begun going back and evening out the stain. It does look better already. They may be able to finish tomorrow. We are still struggling with the paint colors. We have changed both colors and are considering yet another change.
We looked at tile yesterday but haven't made any final decisions yet. I'm getting really tired of making major decisions!
Rick has been working more on the stairs and has them almost ready to paint.
