The Apartment (Part 2)--The slab

August 23: We have a slab!

Rick is running the power trowel. It was a disaster at first until the concrete set up a little more.

Randy and Tracy spreading the concrete out.

Rickey and Randy filling the footing.

So much for pouring the slab this weekend! This was Saturday afternoon (8/16). We had 2.75" of rain Friday night, and the footing is flooded. There is a good chance of more rain for most of the week..... maybe next weekend if it dries out.

This was August 10th. Rick needs more rebar before he can put down the concrete wire and get ready to pour the slab.

These last 3 were on the weekend of August 2-3.

The Apartment (Now)

The first phase of the apartment isn't totally finished yet. We don't have propane yet, so no hot water and no showers. We haven't started staying out there yet.
We still lack a few details in the bathroom. Yes, the bathroom is BLUE, actually eucalyptus leaf. I still haven't decided whether the color will stay until we get all of the rest of the stuff in the bathroom with towels/rugs/etc. to tone it down a little. There is no window in the bathroom, so it needed to be kind of bright. We definitely accomplished that.
The wrinkled looking wall to the left is where the doorway will open up to the new addition. Rick is putting in forms on the new part now and will do the plumbing in the next few days. I have a few pictures and will post them soon.

The left window is the one Rick was framing in the other pictures.

We wanted a rustic looking "roof" on this part and used some old tin we got from the farm in Benjamin. We haven't painted the wall or door yet or put trim around the door. Rick is also going to do something with those old windows and door. The "roof" covers up most of the stuff stored above the apartment. The silver a/c tubing will probably get covered somehow. The decking will also go all the way across the top for a storage loft--probably a winter project.

The Apartment (Then)

This is how the inside apartment started out. It is the back, right corner. You can see the plumbing sticking up for the bathroom (near the black box) and for the hot water heater (near the right column).

It stayed this way from the end of October until around Thanksgiving weekend while we put in overhead lighting, wired most of the building, and purchased the lumber/supplies to frame the apartment.

We had begun framing--this is the bathroom.

Rick is framing one of the bedroom windows back in December.

Rick still framing the window. This picture taken from outside of the apartment.

The ceiling joists were going up. This is looking back out from the bedroom and through the bathroom.

More ceiling joists from a different direction.
