We made good progress on a couple of big projects at the cabin this weekend.  I painted the guest bedroom (primer + 2 coats of paint), and Rick started the very big project of repairing the main deck.

Amy & Vince drove up Friday afternoon with new bikes for Rick and Vince they had picked up in Albuquerque, and we celebrated Vince's 50th birthday on Saturday with a trip to the bakery, a mountain bike ride with beautiful scenery and plenty of climbing, dinner at The Lodge (pics of the sunset from the dining room and from the tower), and a trip to The Western Bar.

We'll be heading back soon to continue the deck repair and to add wood trim to the bottom of the guest bedroom.

Amy and Vince joined us for another long weekend at the cabin.  We went on a couple of long hikes through our neighborhood and the national forest.  It snowed a little on Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, but the temperatures were still pleasant.  The fishing was good, and the kitties enjoyed themselves again.  Unfortunately, the bakery is closed until 3/19.
Rick also made good progress on the remodeling project.  He textured the walls of the main floor bedroom, so it'll be ready to paint and put up wood wainscoting next trip.  The bathroom remodel continues.

March 2, 2014

We had a really nice long weekend at the cabin.  Rick and I (along with Toby & Minx) left Wednesday afternoon.  We had planned to make major progress on remodeling, but Rick reinjured his left knee earlier in the week and was on crutches.  He was eventually able to do some electrical work, and I did some trout fishing and mountain biking.  We kicked back and relaxed a lot with the cats.

We were joined on Friday afternoon and evening by Walt & Kathy and later by Randy & Sandra.  Walt, Kathy and I had a very successful fishing trip late Friday afternoon.  On Saturday, we headed into Cloudcroft for some shopping, bakery goodies and the annual Mardi Gras parade and festivities.

Despite a winter weather warning with predictions of up to 10" of snow at higher altitudes on Saturday night, we woke up to a light snow (which melted quickly) and relatively mild temperatures compared to frigid Lubbock weather.  Once again, we left the mountains with snow on the ground to return to MUCH colder weather at home...go figure!
