11-30-2010: Stone, day 1; Living room cabinet

The stone guys finally got started today!  The stone guy initally told Rick that it would take about three days.  They are going to have to pick up the pace if that's going to happen. 

Rick also made good progress with the living room cabinet and is essentially finished except for some trim which will be added later.  He will start on the bar next.

11-29-2010: Living room cabinets, stone?, misc closets

Well, the stone guys haven't exactly started yet, but they did bring out a trailer today with a mortar mixer and some scaffolding.  We're hoping maybe they'll start tomorrow. 

Rick started the living room cabinets today.  I included some recent pictures of the top of the master closet, the slat boards in the master closet, and shelves in one of the guest bathrooms.

11-24-2010: Pantry; master closet

Rick built the shelves for the pantry today and is installing the clothes racks in the top of the master closet.  He also ordered the pantry and office doors.

The HVAC guys made it out and got the heater hooked up with a temporary thermostat set at a constant 65 degrees.  This should be a lot more comfortable for Rick as the low temperature on Friday morning is projected at 12 degrees.

11-23-2010: Door trim/baseboards in garage

Rick has trim around all doors except the office and pantry (which we don't even have yet).  He installed the  baseboard in the garage but is holding off on most of the rest of the house for now because we need to have the measurements for the height of the floorings before we proceed. 

The first of the wood for the cabinets was delivered today.  We finally made a decision on Sunday after another trip through some open houses.  Rick has plenty to keep him busy for a while.  The HVAC guys haven't been back yet, and the stone guys will hopefully start on Monday.

11-18-2010: More closets

Rick continues working on the closets this week.  The master closet is much closer to being finished, and the office and guest bedroom closets are also almost finished.  He's now working on the pantry and has ordered more trim for the doors.  We still aren't quite ready to start on the kitchen cabinets.

The HVAC guys were out all day on Tuesday and will be back early next week to finish up to get the heater ready to run.  Rick called the stone guy today--it's been about 2 weeks since he said they would start on "Monday" and apparently he meant "Monday a month from now" because they won't be here until after Thanksgiving.

11-15-2010: Master closet

The electricians finally ran the line from the meter to the house today, and we actually have a few lights now.  Rick worked more on the master closet today. 

11-13-2010: Interior doors, door trim, baseboards

We had our first hard freeze this morning with lots of frost on the new roof.  Rick has been working on installing interior doors and putting up door trim and baseboards this week. 

We will start on the kitchen cabinets soon.  We've narrowed the choices of wood in the kitchen area to two woods and are still a little undecided.  I think either will look good.

The stone guys still haven't started yet.  The trench and conduit were completed from the meter to the house earlier in the week, but the electrician also hasn't been back out to get the electricity hooked up.

11-08-2010: Trench dug, big problem

The trench for the new electric line was dug from the meter to the house today but no electrician yet.  Of course, the rock guys didn't show up today.  Rick worked on cleaning up floors on the inside and putting up interior doors.  He'll get started on the kitchen cabinets this week.

The worst news was yesterday around lunch when Rick heard knocking at the front door area and discovered that a woodpecker had pecked a fairly large hole in the cedar in the front entrance area.  He messed up 2 planks and almost the entire ceiling area would have to be removed to replace the 2 planks.  I think we're going to try to patch it after Woody finds a new home.

11-05-2010: Driveway & back patio poured; rock delivered

 

The driveway and back patio were poured today after lunch.  The stone was delivered yesterday, and the stone guys are maybe starting on Monday.  The electrician was supposed to be here AGAIN to trench the line from the meter to the house but still didn't show. 

Rick is continuing his work on the cabinets in the laundry/utility room and is getting ready to order the wood for the kitchen/island areas as soon as we make a final decision on the wood.  He visited a local company that makes cabinet doors/drawer fronts yesterday.
