09-28-2010: Sheetrock, day 4 of ??; front entrance cedar sealed
As I expected, the promised crew of eight turned out to be one guy out here all day (smoking in my house!). He got a decent amount of work done, but I didn't take any pictures. The head guy said he would like to get finished tomorrow (I would have liked for them to get finished on Sunday when they said they would), but he wasn't sure. No more about that.
Rick sealed the cedar beams and planks on the front porch. He also caulked and handpainted primer on the front area that wasn't finished when we painted. He has also been working on the mantle. I just went out into the shop to get a picture to post for the blog, but he had just sanded it again to put on another coat of varnish....maybe tomorrow.
UPDATE: Several of the sheetrock guys came back out around dark and worked another 1 1/2 hours with lights.

09-27-2010: Sheetrock, day 3
The sheetrockers didn't come out until 6pm, and it was only 2 of them. It appears that they mainly just put up sheetrock where they weren't supposed to! The head guy wasn't here, but one of them said they would be back tomorrow with 8 guys to finish----yeah right!!
Rick hauled a large load of sheetrock scraps (exactly 2000 pounds) to the city dump today. The alarm people came back out and finished installing all of the devices in the shop and apartment. The tape/bedding/texture guys are ready to start when this sheetrock crew gets finished.

09-26-2010: Sheetrock, day 2
The picture quality is terrible. It was almost dark when we got home from dinner. The sheetrockers didn't finish today but should be able to finish it tomorrow.

09-25-2010: Sheetrock
The first picture is one last look at the water line in the basement from the July 4th flood. The sheetrockers started today and got a lot done despite a 3 hour lunch break. Amazingly, they plan to finish up tomorrow. We don't even have the taping and bedding arranged yet, although we do know who we're going to use.
Rick has been drawing cabinets and will get started very soon. The brick may arrive this week (I don't think it will--I think they just keep telling us that so we won't cancel the order and go with something else!).

09-24-2010: Foam finished
The foam guys are finished, and the sheetrock was delivered while we were at dinner tonight. It looks like the sheetrockers will get started tomorrow.

09-23-2010: Foam insulation
The foam guys got the windows and house prepped yesterday but didn't start the foam until this morning. The second crew didn't arrive until later in the afternoon, so they didn't get finished today.
The sheetrock guy finally sent someone out tonight to measure and get an estimate on how much sheetrock we need. They want to get started Saturday, but Rick hasn't been able to call in the order and arrange for delivery tomorrow since he didn't know how much they needed. We're not sure we can get scheduled for delivery tomorrow, so Saturday may be out.

9-21-2010
The alarm guys were back today and are close to finishing. They mainly just need to put the alarm stuff in the barn and apartment now. The sheetrock was delivered yesterday, and the sheetrockers were kind of dragging their feet thinking they had a day or two more. The foam guys called and they can probably get started tomorrow, so the sheetrockers showed up around 7:30pm tonight and were finished putting up the wall between the kitchen and garage in about 45 minutes. The pictures above were taken about an hour apart. The wall makes a huge difference!
Rick has been working on the gas line and future water and electric stuff that will run under the driveway.
The last picture was from the Zac Brown Band concert on Friday night. The Eagles concert is in two weeks!

9-15-2010: garage door(s), fireplace
It seems like we've been doing a lot of waiting for the past week. The plumbers, electricians, and HVAC guys are finished for now. We decided on an alarm/sound system company on Monday, but they won't be out until Friday and Saturday to do their thing.
The garage doors were installed yesterday, but the small garage door still hasn't arrived, so they put in the tracks and a temporary door. The larger door is installed, but has a dent on the inside that I'm not too pleased about. The house can be secured now, and they'll install the small door when it arrives. I'm not sure how the dent issue will be resolved.
The fireplace was installed today. Rick has been working on adding bracing to some doors and walls (especially in the bathroom areas), building a bench in the shower, moving a door opening in the master closet, etc.
The brick was scheduled to be fired yesterday and should arrive sometime next week. The foam guys were back out today for another estimate but probably won't be available until sometime toward the end of next week. The sheetrock guys will have to come out sometime before then to put up a sheetrock wall between the garage and the kitchen.

09-08-2010: Roof completed
The roof was finished this afternoon. The plumber is supposed to be back tomorrow to finish up this portion of the building process. The electrician and HVAC crews have completed most of their parts of the process for now. We have another alarm company coming out tomorrow to give us a bid on the alarm service and electronics wiring. One of the garage doors is ready, and the other should arrive Friday. We should be able to get the insulation (foam) guy out here when the electronics wiring is completed (probably next week). We have a call in to the brick people but haven't heard back yet. Something with the brick happens tomorrow (9/9), but I think it's more related to production than to shipping and delivery. All of the remaining exterior work, except the garage doors, is now waiting on the arrival and installation of the brick and then stone. The stone will be ready when we need it.
